2903 Final reflection

2903 Community service – Self reflection

After finishing the volunteer project I have been able to do my final reflection ,Volunteering is a great effort and a great thing that you can contribute by it , It taught me a lot of things I was not know it and it developed my own skills in addition to it taught me how I can communicate with other people by the best way , it expanded my social life experience and it helped me to be better than any time before  .

Before few days we finished our volunteering project, It was in ZHO ( Zayed Higher Organization ) , That organization located in Baniyas almost beside Al Mafraq hospital .There was a lot of things we can help them to do it , for example painting , playing , reading and also how to make candles , Every part that we had worked on it was very interesting but after asking my volunteer group I am able to say that the best part was helping them to read , because its nice to help people to been educated and the smile on their faces while they trying to say what you did makes you feel very happy . On the last day of our volunteer I saw many of the students became able to spell some of the words that we taught them and I think that’s can be belong to our efforts because we were trying and trying to teach them all of the time .

Finally  I think volunteering is an beautiful thing you can benefit your community by it , I have learned many things such as the persone who helps other he will gains something for , in addition to he will provide himself by skills and experience that will make him being better .

Fourth Day of our Volunteer

Before the last step of our volunteer i went to say good bye to all of the students there and to all who work there , I told them that i had a very great time with you and i will come again to visit you as soon as possible . Fourth day of our volunteer we went to the wax section to see and to know how they can make candles . First of all they take a quantity of wax from the bag then they put it on the heater to make it milted , after this step we helped them to take the milted wax and to put it in the solid container to give the wax pretty shape , therefore we and them cool up the candles to be ready to use .

Education in several levels

Education is the basis of anything in the world , we build everything on it . After many days working in ZHO we saw that care on education there more than anything else . Formerly we visited the first level and we played with them some games , but after many days we went to the other levels such as the second , third and the fourth . They learn more things than the below levels . First level include children from 5-7 years , second level 7-9 years , third level 9-12 years and the last level from 14 - up .

we taught them colors and how to spell it in addition to put it in the box

This zone for having fun and play with the toys

The second level hang their names on the wall

These shapes for making them know some of the desert environment .

They collect their monthly effort in these folders to notice who is becoming better .

Carpentry

After having great time with the children last day .. we went to the carpentry section , we saw that carpentry took a great importance in ZHO because they provide the students there by some rooms for this activity , also they have everything they need to carpentry for example woodworking equipment and machines . After all of this they have achieved what they wish for which is make the students use their time on beneficial things as we did .

They use this machine to cut the wood and make it available
                                    for the next step .

They start by drawing the shape first then the cut the wood .

These are the equipment which they use it for woodwork

These framework are made by them .

Finally , disability is not a barrier between you and your dream . Its only delusions that you are not able to do what you dream for .

Education and entertainment

Today we went to the education section and we helped some of them to do their works . In ZHO they care about education as much as they care on other needs , they classify them by their ages not by more level . We helped the first level which has children from 5 to 7 years . Every child there must has a personal assistance with him to help him to do his works , needs and eat his meals . Every level has a supervisor and take care of the students and help him if they need . We played with some of them puzzle and help them to draw the flag , in the first time they were confusing because we are new for them but after a few period of time they adapted with us and they felt comfortable so then they did all what the should do with some laughs and smiles .

Here is their school and these are the classes

helping them to draw the UAE flag

These are the names of the class room

Here is some of their paints .

This is some of their games .

The first day and the orientation

In the first day of our volunteer work we met Mrs.Soaad and she gave  us information about the charity in addition to the names of the places there . Formerly we thought that ZHO have a specific kind of special needs but today we noticed that they have special needs in general . In ZHO there is a school for both of girls and boys , canteen and rooms for doing their activities .

                                                              This is the reception

These are some candles form their creation

This is for giving them massage and some qualifications to help them to walk

Finally ,Volunteering is a great effort and good way to be helpful , In the end you can take experience in how you can communicate with other people .

Maslow Human needs pyramid 1 / 2

Maslow’s Human Needs Pyramid
Psychologist Abraham Maslow first introduced his concept of a hierarchy of needs in 1943. This hierarchy suggests that people are motivated to fulfill basic needs before moving on to other, more advanced needs.

http://thinkleftdotorg.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/dreamstime_m_16800829.jpg

As people progress up the pyramid, needs become increasingly psychological and social. Soon, the need for love, friendship, and intimacy become important. Further up the pyramid, the need for personal esteem and feelings of accomplishment take priority. Maslow emphasized the importance of self-actualization, which is a process of growing and developing as a person in order to achieve individual potential.

This hierarchy is most often displayed as a pyramid, as shown below. The lowest levels of the pyramid are made up of the most basic needs, while the more complex needs are located at the top of the pyramid. Needs at the bottom of the pyramid are basic physical requirements including the need for food, water, sleep, and warmth. Once these lower-level needs have been met, people can move on to the next level of needs, which are for safety and security

Types of Needs
Maslow believed that these needs are similar to instincts and play a major role in motivating behavior. Physiological, security, social, and esteem needs are deficiency needs (also known as D-needs), meaning that these needs arise due to deprivation. Satisfying these lower-level needs is important in order to avoid unpleasant feelings or consequences.
Maslow termed the highest-level of the pyramid as growth needs (also known as being needs or B-needs). Growth needs do not stem from a lack of something, but rather from a desire to grow as a person.
Five Levels of the Hierarchy of Needs
There are five different levels in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs:
1.     Physiological Needs
These include the most basic needs that are vital to survival, such as the need for water, air, food, and sleep. Maslow believed that these needs are the most basic and instinctive needs in the hierarchy because all needs become secondary until these physiological needs are met.

2.     Security Needs
These include needs for safety and security. Security needs are important for survival, but they are not as demanding as the physiological needs. Examples of security needs include a desire for steady employment, health insurance, safe neighborhoods, and shelter from the environment.

3.     Social Needs
These include needs for belonging, love, and affection. Maslow considered these needs to be less basic than physiological and security needs. Relationships such as friendships, romantic attachments, and families help fulfill this need for companionship and acceptance, as doe’s involvement in social, community, or religious groups.

4.     Esteem Needs
After the first three needs have been satisfied, esteem needs becomes increasingly important. These include the need for things that reflect on self-esteem, personal worth, social recognition, and accomplishment.

5.     Self-actualizing Needs
This is the highest level of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Self-actualizing people are self-aware, concerned with personal growth, less concerned with the opinions of others, and interested fulfilling their potential.
